Dobermans are a gentle, loving,
and loyal. They are very intelligent dogs and very easy to
train. They are energetic with tremendous strength and stamina but
noble and affectionate with the family. Dobermans are very people
oriented and like to be physically close to family members. The
Doberman is naturally protective and usually does not require
additional protection training. Those familiar with the Doberman
breed believe them to be suitable for families with other dog breeds
and excellent with young children. Although the Doberman has a
reputation of being a very aggressive dog, this is just not the
case. They make great therapy dogs for example, often going to
nursing homes and children's hospitals. Dobermans vary greatly in
temperament. Some are submissive, some are are family dogs and
others bond only to a single person. The doberman has been bred to
work closely with people and they need this interaction often, not
abandoned to the lonely solitude of a backyard. The Doberman breed
usually needs a home with a large yard but can be kept in an
apartment if provided with sufficient exercise. Dobermans are cold
sensitive and are not an outside dog. They are very good in the
house, being gentle and very happy just to curl up in a ball and
sleep. They need very little grooming and are average shedders.
